A morning stroll around the Lodge

22 August 2021 - Ngwenya Lodge; Day 3

I was catching up with an old school friend over lunch today, so enjoyed another early morning walk around the Lodge grounds in the morning. Unfortunately, it was more gloomy this morning than yesterday, but always nice to be out as the world is waking up.

I spent some time at the Restaurant lookout deck which has great views up and down the Crocodile River, although conditions were really crappy for photography. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the many Hirundines hawking above the river, including a few Grey-rumped Swallow's - can you see the grey rump?

A Green-backed/Striated Heron did a fly by

Followed shortly by a Fish Eagle

and later a Yellow-billed Stork

In the bush along the railings, a Village Weaver sat proud

Whilst a little lower, a male Spectacled Weaver was a little more secretive

Around the restaurant, more Impala Lilies were in flower

Walking back to our Unit, another Green-backed/Striated Heron whizzed over one of the dams.

At our Unit, I found a female Scarlet-chested Sunbird nest building - no male in sight

A Lesser Masked Weaver surrounded by green

and lastly, a Long-billed Crombec feeding in the Fever Tree next to our Unit.

It was then time to prepare for our lunch ahead of a great afternoon with Lex and Lynne Hes
